Greenard 'close' as Eagles weigh edge rusher's Week 1 availability
Philadelphia's offseason addition has practiced on a limited basis all week after missing the entire summer, but the team has not told him whether he will play Sunday

The Eagles still do not know whether Jonathan Greenard will be on the field for Sunday's opener against the Commanders, and the edge rusher says he is not asking for an answer. Greenard, who did not practice at all this summer because of a pectoral injury, has been a limited participant on each of the first two injury reports of the week.
"They haven't told me anything," Greenard said Thursday, via Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia. "I just know I've been getting right, going through the motions of just trying to get back into the swing of things before I get fully thrown out there. But it's something every day. So I just listen to them. I trust their judgment."
Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio offered the same day-to-day framing earlier in the week, saying Greenard is "getting up to speed" and that the staff would see where the week took him. Friday brings one more practice and the release of game designations, which should make the plan clearer.
Even if Greenard is active, he is likely to play a reduced number of snaps in his first action since arriving in Philadelphia. For a defense that is counting on him to upgrade the pass rush, though, any availability is better than none as the Eagles open their season.
