Philadelphia will open its season without the edge rusher it had been hoping to get back on the field, and a rookie tight end's availability is now in question as well.
Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo): The #Eagles have ruled out LB Jonathan Greenard (pec) for Sunday. Rookie TE Eli Stowers (hamstring) is questionable.
Greenard had been working back from the pectoral injury he suffered in the preseason, returning to practice for the first time since the setback earlier this week. The team had been weighing his availability over the past several days before Friday's designation closed the door on Week 1.
The Eagles now move forward with the rest of their edge group for the opener, leaving Greenard's first regular-season appearance in Philadelphia on hold for at least another week.
Stowers' status will be sorted out closer to kickoff, with the rookie tight end still carrying a chance to suit up against the opponent Philadelphia draws Sunday.
