Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter is playing through a hairline fracture in his right wrist, according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, who cited NFL sources.
Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane): #Eagles DT Jalen Carter has a hairline fracture in his right wrist, NFL sources told The Inquirer. Carter suffered the injury in Week 1 and has played with a soft cast the last two games. His playing time has decreased, although he's still playing the most at his position. Asked how much the wrist injury has impacted Carter, Eagles DC Vic Fangio said today, "He's done better than I thought he would with it."
The injury happened in Week 1, and Carter has played the last two games with a soft cast. He has appeared on every injury report since the opener with the wrist issue disclosed, and while his practice participation has climbed from limited to full, his game snap count has declined. Carter played 66 snaps (94%) against the Commanders in Week 1, then 41 snaps (77%) at Tennessee and 51 snaps (71%) on Monday night at Chicago.
Asked Wednesday whether the wrist has been a problem for Carter, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said, "There's no way it can't be, but to be honest with you, he's done better than I thought he would with it."
It remains to be seen whether Philadelphia manages his workload again Sunday against a desperate Rams team looking to avoid 1-3. Carter is still playing more snaps than any other Eagles defensive lineman despite the reduction, a testament to how central he is to the front.
