The Eagles' rookie tight end will have to wait for his debut. Philadelphia downgraded Eli Stowers to out and placed him on injured reserve, meaning he will miss the first four weeks, per Mike Garafolo.

Stowers had been listed as questionable with a hamstring issue, and Garafolo added that a quad injury was added to the picture. The second-round pick had been telling reporters as recently as yesterday that he was confident he'd play, making the turn to IR a sudden reversal.

The timing is a hit to Philadelphia's depth at tight end heading into the opener. Stowers was expected to carve out a role in the offense as a rookie, and the IR placement means the Eagles will manage without him for the season's first month. The team will lean on its other options at the position while Stowers works his way back.
