The Eagles' offensive injury situation continues to worsen ahead of Sunday's game against the Panthers. Star running back Saquon Barkley and wide receiver DeVonta Smith both sat out for another day of practice on Thursday, marking their second consecutive DNP of the week with hamstring injuries.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Looks like another day without practice for Saquon Barkley and Devonta Smith.
Both players also missed the Eagles' Week 5 loss to the Jaguars with the same hamstring issues — Barkley has been sidelined since aggravating his hamstring in practice before that game, while Smith has been battling a lingering hamstring/toe problem that has kept him limited or out for multiple weeks.
Their continued absence compounds a rapidly thinning offensive roster for Philadelphia. Quarterback Jalen Hurts was ruled out for Sunday earlier Thursday after a blood clot was discovered in his calf, leaving the Eagles without their top three offensive weapons as they prepare to face Carolina. The offensive line is also banged up: Landon Dickerson (knee), Tyler Steen (shoulder), and Drew Kendall (knee) have all been on the injury report this week.
The Eagles will need to rely on depth options at running back and wide receiver if neither Barkley nor Smith can go Sunday. Fill-in options at running back include Will Shipley, who has been nursing a foot injury and is also on the DNP list, and practice-squad elevations. At receiver, Marquise 'Hollywood' Brown has been limited in practice with an ankle injury, leaving Dontayvion Wicks as the healthiest option alongside A.J. Brown and the tight end group.
Head coach Matt Patricia and the Eagles' medical staff will face decisions over the next 48 hours on whether to carry either player as game-time decisions or rule them out ahead of Sunday's 1:00 PM ET kickoff at Lincoln Financial Field.
