Dolphins claim receiver Ryan Miller off waivers, waive Tahj Washington in roster shuffle
Miami swapped one wideout for another ahead of cutdowns, adding the former Buccaneer and letting go of its 2024 seventh-round pick.
The Dolphins remade the bottom of their receiving chart on Tuesday, claiming Ryan Miller off waivers from the Giants and waiving Tahj Washington to open the roster spot.
David Furones (@DavidFurones_): Dolphins claimed wide receiver Ryan Miller off waivers from the New York Giants and waived wide receiver Tahj Washington.
Miller, 26, brings actual regular-season experience to a young Miami receiver room. Across three seasons with Tampa Bay he appeared in 25 games with six starts, catching 14 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns. The Giants claimed him off waivers from the Buccaneers last December and re-signed him in April, but he never surfaced in a regular-season game for New York before being waived Monday — and Miami pounced within a day.
Washington's departure is the tougher story locally. The 2024 seventh-round pick caught three passes for 37 yards as a rookie but couldn't hold off the incoming claim in a numbers crunch at the position. With final cuts looming Sunday, the Dolphins chose a proven special-teams-capable veteran over developmental upside.
Expect more churn like this across the league this week: waiver claims of this kind are exactly how contenders fill out the back of the 90-man roster before the cut to 53.
