Texans sign UFL edge rusher Derick Parish with the position group running thin
Houston is adding the former Jaguars sixth-round pick and UFL defender as Jadeveon Clowney and Domonique Robinson nurse short-term injuries behind season-ending losses on the edge.
The Texans keep shopping for pass-rush help, and this time they signed what they found. Houston reached agreement with edge rusher Derick Parish, a former Jaguars sixth-round pick who rebuilt his stock in the UFL, adding another body to a defensive front that has been whittled down over the past week.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Former Jaguars 2023 sixth-round pick and UFL edge rusher Derick Parish reached agreement today with the Houston Texans.
The context explains the timing. Dylan Horton is gone for the year with a torn Achilles, Jadeveon Clowney is managing an ankle issue, and Domonique Robinson is dealing with a calf problem — three absences that leave Houston's edge rotation dangerously shallow with cutdowns approaching. Aaron Wilson reported Parish as a signing candidate before Schefter confirmed the agreement, noting he had worked out for the team earlier as exactly the kind of short-term fill they needed.
Parish, 25, was a Houston-area college product whose UFL tape with the Defenders kept his name in the transaction stream all summer. He won't be asked to replace Horton's snaps so much as stabilize a practice rotation, but for a contender trying to protect its pass-rush depth through the preseason's final stretch, a fresh leg on a cheap deal is precisely the move.
