Chiefs acquire guard Josh Ezeudu from Giants for a 2028 seventh-round pick
Kansas City landed experienced interior line help ahead of cutdowns, sending a late 2028 pick to New York for the 2022 third-rounder.
The first notable trade of cutdown week is done: the Giants have sent guard Joshua Ezeudu to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick. Jordan Schultz was first with the deal, and Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo quickly followed with confirmation.
Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report): Trade: The #Chiefs are trading a 2028 7th-round pick to the #Giants in exchange for G Josh Ezeudu, per sources. Kansas City has been looking to add OL depth and now does so with Ezeudu, who played in 33 games during his tenure with New York.
Ezeudu arrived in New York as a 2022 third-round pick and appeared in 33 games across his four seasons with the franchise. He heads to a Kansas City line that has been searching for experienced interior depth throughout the preseason, giving the Chiefs a swing guard with four years of NFL reps at a cost of almost nothing.
Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): The #Giants are trading G Joshua Ezeudu to the #Chiefs for a 2028 7th rounder, per me and @MikeGarafolo. Some depth to KC.
For the Giants, the return is modest but sensible. Ezeudu was a backup on a roster that has to shrink to 53 players by Sunday afternoon, and a late pick in 2028 beats losing him for nothing later this week. The trade also continues a busy stretch of roster shuffling for New York, which waived receiver Ryan Miller on Monday and saw Calvin Austin III leave Tuesday's practice with a serious knee injury.
Both teams wrap up the preseason this week before rosters are finalized across the league on August 30.
