Commanders release tackle Foster Sarell hours after adding D.J. Humphries
Washington churned its tackle depth on Tuesday, cutting the veteran swing lineman the same day it signed the former Pro Bowler.
The Commanders' offensive line shuffle continued Tuesday with a corresponding move to the D.J. Humphries signing: Washington released tackle Foster Sarell, as announced by the club and reported by the team's beat.
John Keim (@john_keim): Washington has released OT Foster Sarell.
Sarell, 27, was in his second stint with the organization after rejoining the club in March. He previously spent the 2025 offseason program and training camp in Washington without making the initial 53-man roster. His NFL game action has come entirely with the Chargers — 41 appearances and four starts over the last four seasons — plus stops with the Ravens, Giants and Rams along the way.
The release makes room on the depth chart for Humphries, the former Pro Bowl left tackle signed earlier in the day to a one-year deal while starter Laremy Tunsil recovers from a torn triceps. Washington has been aggressively rebuilding its tackle depth this week — the team also signed Boogie Basham off the Raiders' practice squad Monday — and Sarell became the odd man out once the more accomplished veteran cleared his workout.
Sarell should draw interest elsewhere with final cuts due Sunday; teams hunting for experienced tackle depth rarely let a 41-game lineman sit on the wire for long.
