The Washington Commanders will be without wide receiver Stefon Diggs when they host the New York Giants on Sunday, while quarterback Jayden Daniels is cleared to play and Terry McLaurin is trending the right way. Head coach Dan Quinn delivered the news to reporters on Friday.

Diggs' absence removes one of the Commanders' most dependable targets from a passing attack that has leaned heavily on McLaurin. Washington signed Diggs in the offseason to add a second proven playmaker opposite the team's No. 1 receiver, and the timing of the loss — against a Giants defense that has been aggressive under Dennis Wilson — narrows the margin for error on early downs.

The quarterback news offers a counterweight. After the Commanders dealt with injury questions around Daniels this week, Quinn's confirmation that he is good to go settles the most important question for the matchup.

The Giants are expected to lean on their running game with Cam Skattebo against what has been Washington's defense, with heavy rain in the Landover forecast only reinforcing a slog-heavy expectation on both sides. Even so, McLaurin trending toward full participation after looking good in Friday's session keeps the Commanders' downfield element alive — provided the elements cooperate. It shapes up as a divisional grind where Washington must find enough passing production without Diggs.
