Sauce Gardner acknowledged several effort lapses in London and said they won't happen again. Mike Chappell shared his response.
Mike Chappell (@mchappell51): 'There was multiple plays where my effort was not there and that’s not what I stand for. That’s not the type of person I am. That’s not the type of player I am. That'll never happen again.'
Chappell's account of the exchange said Gardner was referring to runs and yards after the catch, not the longer receptions. Gardner apologized for those plays and took responsibility for the effort.
That distinction narrows the criticism to pursuit and effort on specific plays rather than a general complaint about his coverage. Gardner's own message was that the lapses did not reflect the player he believes he is.
