Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN): Some roster movement in Kansas City: Per head coach Andy Reid, the Chiefs are placing WR Tyquan Thornton on Injured Reserve, elevating LB Cam Jones from the practice squad and signing WR Justin Watson to the practice squad.
Thornton's move to IR was the expected next step after he dislocated his ankle in the Chiefs' game against the Raiders earlier this month, an injury initially reported as a 12-to-16-week recovery window. The official designation opens a roster spot while freeing the second-year receiver to focus on a lengthy rehab.
Watson's return is a familiar reunion: Ian Rapoport noted the veteran wideout was with Kansas City from 2022-2024, meaning he knows the offense and Patrick Mahomes' timing well. Joining the practice squad gives the Chiefs an experienced emergency option behind their current receiver group, while Jones' elevation bolsters depth at linebacker for the week ahead.
