Chargers wide receiver Ladd McConkey has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Chiefs after being evaluated for a head injury in the first quarter at Arrowhead Stadium.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Ladd McConkey now has been ruled out with a concussion.
The Chargers announced McConkey was being evaluated for a head injury after he went down in the first quarter, and the designation was upgraded to a concussion diagnosis shortly after. McConkey's day ended before he could record a catch; he entered the game having already been a regular on the injury report this season, missing one game and being listed as questionable for several others.
His absence compounds a difficult day for the Chargers offense, which entered Week 6 at 0-5 and facing the undefeated Chiefs in Kansas City. Quarterback Justin Herbert threw his eighth interception of the season — a pass that was picked off in the end zone after Patrick Mahomes failed to throw the ball away under pressure — and the Chargers trailed 9-3 at the time McConkey was ruled out.
Los Angeles has lost its top two wide receivers in back-to-back weeks. The Chargers will hit their bye week next, giving McConkey time to clear concussion protocol before the team's next game, but the recurring nature of his health issues this season is a concern for a passing game that has struggled to find consistency.
