The Los Angeles Chargers shuffled their roster on Saturday, activating two players from injured reserve while placing a pair of players on IR themselves.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Chargers activated fullback/defensive lineman Scott Matlock and guard/tackle Branson Taylor from injured reserve; they also placed quarterback Trey Lance and offensive lineman Trevor Penning on injured reserve.
Fullback and defensive lineman Scott Matlock and guard/tackle Branson Taylor were both activated from IR. Matlock, a versatile blocker, gives the Chargers a hybrid option capable of contributing on both sides of the ball. Taylor, who signed with Los Angeles this offseason, adds depth along an offensive line that could be without Rashawn Slater (who underwent ankle surgery on Thursday and will go on IR).
Quarterback Trey Lance was placed on injured reserve, ending his bid to serve as the primary backup behind Justin Herbert. Lance, who was competing for the No. 2 job, had appeared in mop-up duty in two games this season. Trevor Penning, the former first-round pick acquired by the Chargers this season, was also placed on IR after struggling with injuries and consistency at tackle.
The Chargers (2-2) travel to Cleveland to face the Browns on Sunday.
