The San Francisco 49ers have parted ways with veteran edge rusher Matt Judon, releasing him from the practice squad.
Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero): The 49ers released veteran edge Matt Judon from the practice squad.
Judon, a four-time Pro Bowler who spent the majority of his career with the Ravens and Patriots, signed with the 49ers' practice squad in September. The 34-year-old pass rusher appeared in two games for San Francisco and recorded two tackles and no sacks during his brief stint.
The release comes as the 49ers edge rush room is starting to get healthier. Mykel Williams is set to make his season debut this Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, and Nick Bosa continues to progress toward a return. San Francisco has managed a league-average pass rush without its top two edge defenders, with Leonard Floyd leading the team with three sacks.
Judon's release frees up a practice squad spot as the 49ers (4-0) prepare for their Week 5 matchup against the Seahawks.
