The Patriots added backfield depth Saturday by acquiring running back Corey Kiner from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for a 2028 seventh-round pick, according to Adam Schefter.

Kiner, an undrafted rookie a year ago, appeared in four games for Arizona in 2025, carrying 12 times for 58 yards and adding two catches for 15 yards and a 22-yard kickoff return. The Cardinals, who added first-round pick Jeremiyah Love and free agent Tyler Allgeier to their running back room this offseason, had decided they no longer had a roster spot for him.
New England, sitting 31st in the waiver order, was concerned another club would claim Kiner before the Patriots' turn. Rather than risk losing him, the team parted with a late-round pick a year and a half out to lock in the player it wanted. The move is the kind of low-cost, high-upside swing contending teams make when they like a specific young player but sit too low in the waiver queue to count on landing him.
