Baker Mayfield is not ready to return from his dislocated thumb, so Jalon Daniels will make a third straight start for Tampa Bay on Sunday against Pittsburgh

Baker Mayfield is still working his way back from the dislocated thumb that has kept him out since Week 4, and the Buccaneers are going with Jalon Daniels at quarterback again — this time confirmed for Sunday's matchup against the Steelers.
Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo): Baker Mayfield working his way back but not there yet. It’ll be Jalon Daniels against the #Steelers.
Mayfield has been sidelined since dislocating his thumb in Tampa Bay's Week 4 loss to the Vikings, an injury that also forced him to miss the team's Week 5 game against the Saints. The Bucs have been cautious with their starter throughout the week, and Thursday's development locks in another week with the backup under center while Mayfield keeps rehabbing.
Daniels has kept Tampa Bay's offense competitive in Mayfield's absence despite the team's rough start. The third straight start gives him a full week of preparation against a Pittsburgh defense that ranks among the league's more aggressive units, and it removes any pregame uncertainty about who will take the first snap.
Todd Bowles has consistently stressed caution over speed when it comes to Mayfield's recovery. With the starter still not there yet, Sunday at Raymond James Stadium becomes another opportunity for Daniels to show the offense can function in full while the franchise quarterback waits for full clearance.
