Deshaun Watson will be one of five Browns captains for Sunday's opener at Jacksonville, with Todd Monken using a weekly format rather than season-long designations in his first season as Cleveland's head coach.

Monken said Monday that coaches will select two captains from offense, two from defense and one from special teams each week, with players voting on the permanent 2026 captains at the end of the year. Watson is joined on the Week 1 list by guard Zion Johnson, cornerback Tyson Campbell, defensive tackle Mason Graham and long snapper Rex Sunahara.
The designation arrives as Watson prepares to start Sunday. Earlier Monday, Cleveland indicated that Taylen Green could be the active No. 2 quarterback, with the possibility of packages for Green against Jacksonville. The Browns as an organization are doing everything they can to throw their support behind Watson, and the weekly captains are just another small way of not naming a season-long captain in the volatile QB room.
