Sean Payton says Marvin Mims Jr. is 'fine' after foot bruise

The Broncos' front-line receiver exited the preseason finale as a precaution; Payton called it just a bruise and said they were cautious with him.

Good news for Denver's passing game. Sean Payton said after the preseason finale that Marvin Mims Jr. is "fine" and is dealing with nothing more than a foot bruise, calling it a precautionary exit for one of the Broncos' "front-line guys."

Mims got a handful of snaps Friday night before the staff pulled him — Troy Renck reported the same, that Mims is fine with a bruise on his foot. With the regular season opener against the Giants less than two weeks out, there was no reason to expose a key receiver in a meaningless game.

The bigger roster question Payton flagged postgame is at tight end. He told Parker Gabriel the room is "still something we're working through" and will be high on the list of topics when the staff starts making cuts Saturday — a sign Denver may not be done evaluating that group before Sunday's 53-man deadline.
