The NFL suspended 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw for one game without pay on Monday, three days after he was ejected for headbutting Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV during San Francisco's win in Seattle.
The NFL's release, cited an act of unsportsmanlike conduct during Sunday's game, and the suspension carries with it the right to appeal. Any appeal would be heard and decided by one of the league-appointed hearing officers — Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera or James Thrash — jointly selected by the NFL and NFLPA.
The one-game ban will keep Greenlaw out of Monday night's Week 6 matchup against the Commanders, The 49ers will play without a defense that has been one of the league's most physical. The headbutt came after a scuffle during the divisional clash, briefly turning a marquee NFC West win into a disciplinary matter that now carries a roster cost for Week 6.
