The Vikings are signing quarterback Max Brosmer from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, filling the depth chart's third quarterback slot after shipping J.J. McCarthy to the Giants late last week.
Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero): The Vikings are signing QB Max Brosmer from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, per source. With the J.J. McCarthy trade complete, the move allows Brosmer to be inactive but dress as the emergency No. 3 QB behind Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz.
Tom Pelissero reported the move, noting it lets Brosmer dress as the team's emergency No. 3 signal-caller behind starter Kyler Murray and backup Carson Wentz. Brosmer, a 25-year-old undrafted passer who joined the Vikings as a free agent last year, appeared in seven games with two starts as a rookie, completing 66.2 percent of his passes for 328 yards.
The promotion is a direct consequence of the McCarthy trade, which netted Minnesota a 2027 fifth-round pick and left the club thin at quarterback. Minnesota hosts the Dolphins in Week 4, and while Murray is under center, the roster move ensures the Vikings carry insurance behind him and Wentz.
Brosmer's inexperience — his brief rookie-season action produced no touchdowns against four interceptions — makes him a developmental piece rather than a factor in the short-term plan, but the club values having a full quarterback room intact through a critical stretch of the season.
