Washington quarterback Marcus Mariota aggravated his MCL injury and will undergo tests, with the Commanders expecting him to miss some time, Ian Rapoport reported, citing Molly McGrath.
Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): #Commanders QB Marcus Mariota aggravated his MCL injury and now will have tests, per @MollyAMcGrath. Expect him to miss some time. That said, there is hope that QB Jayden Daniels (elbow) is back next week.
The update advances Sunday's in-game report that Mariota had left against Indianapolis and seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis had taken over at quarterback. That earlier change left Washington with its third-string option for the remainder of the game.
Rapoport also reported there is hope Jayden Daniels can return next week from his elbow injury. Daniels was inactive against the Colts, so the possibility of his return would give Washington another option if Mariota is unavailable.
Mariota's tests will provide the next information on the aggravated MCL; no result or longer timetable was included in Rapoport's report. The report does not establish a firm return date for either quarterback, so Washington's next update will determine who is available for the upcoming game.
