UDFA Camden Brown makes Cowboys roster case with two-TD night

Camden Brown caught all three of his targets for 62 yards and two touchdowns in the Cowboys' preseason opener, capping a strong summer for the undrafted receiver.

Undrafted rookies face an uphill battle to make a roster, but Camden Brown keeps making the Cowboys' decision harder.

Brown caught all three passes thrown his way for 62 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's preseason opener against the Seahawks, building on a training camp in which he exceeded expectations for an undrafted player.

Coach Brian Schottenheimer has noticed the consistency. "The game's not too big for him. He does that every day in practice. We see it all the time," Schottenheimer said. "He's been doing this the whole time. What I love about him is he does the little things, too. You watch him on special teams, in one-on-one drills, he realizes that's how you make this football team."

Brown's route here was unconventional: he began at Auburn, got little playing time through three seasons, then transferred to Georgia Southern and caught 65 passes for 1,079 yards while leading the Sun Belt with 14 touchdown grabs. After his big night he pointed to the mindset he carries onto every ball. "When the ball is in the air, it's mine," Brown said. "That's always been a mindset, from Georgia Southern and Auburn."

Dallas has CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and Ryan Flournoy at the top of a crowded receiver room, with Kavontae Turpin locked in as a returner — which leaves little room for a fourth or fifth option. Brown is giving the staff a reason to make room.
