Rams QB Ty Simpson shines in preseason debut: 21-of-25, 190 yards, 2 TDs
Rams first-round pick Ty Simpson completed 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in his first NFL preseason game against the Chiefs.
Ty Simpson made his NFL debut look easy. The Rams' first-round pick completed 21 of 25 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions in Los Angeles' preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.
Simpson, the second quarterback taken in this year's draft, showed the poise the Rams were banking on when they spent a first-round pick on him. He was accurate on short and intermediate throws and finished drives in the end zone while spreading the ball around the offense.
The stat line — 84 percent completions, two scores, no turnovers — is about as clean as a debut can be, and it should quiet questions about how quickly the rookie can adjust to NFL speed.

Simpson's 190 yards through the air came against a Chiefs defense in a first look at live NFL action, and the Rams have to be encouraged by how the rookie ran the offense from the opening series.
