Rams' McVay says he will 'evaluate everything' about kicking unit after OT loss

Sean McVay said the Rams will evaluate everything about their kicking operation after Monday night's overtime loss to the Bills, owning the decision to kick on third down

Sean McVay made clear the Rams' kicking operation is on the chopping block after Monday night's 37-34 overtime loss to the Bills. The head coach said postgame he will be evaluating everything about the unit, ESPN's Sarah Barshop reported — a detail ESPN's Jeremy Fowler relayed.

McVay specifically pointed to the game's final sequence, regretting the decision to attempt a field goal on third down rather than give his offense a chance to extend the drive. "I'm sick that we came up short and I'll be regretting kicking that and not having a better call to be able to go for it on third down and go to fourth or whatever it was. And that's on me," he said.

Special teams doomed the Rams again Monday night: an overtime field-goal attempt was blocked — the block set up Tyler Bass's winner for Buffalo — and McVay was left lamenting the decision to kick on third down instead of going for it. The loss dropped Los Angeles to 2-3, and the repeated kicking failures now put the entire operation under review as the Rams try to steady themselves before a winnable stretch of the schedule.
