Patrick Mahomes added another entry to his growing resume on Sunday, tying Tom Brady for the fewest games needed to reach 100 regular-season wins as a starting quarterback. The Chiefs' victory over the Chargers was Mahomes' 100th win in his 131st start, matching the mark Brady set over his legendary career.
Speaking after the game, Mahomes laughed off the comparison at first but acknowledged the weight of being mentioned alongside Brady.
"My honest first reaction is they've said this from 97 on. I'm like, 'When did Tom lose another game?' Because I feel every game I win, I tie him," Mahomes said. "But in all seriousness, it's always an honor to be in any conversation as far as winning football with him. That's the GOAT. He knows how to win football better than anyone really in any other sport."
Mahomes admitted the chase provides motivation but noted how far he still has to go to surpass Brady's broader legacy. Brady finished his career with 251 regular-season wins and seven Super Bowl titles — marks that remain distant targets.
"I mean, there's so many more games I have to win and Super Bowls and all that different type of stuff," Mahomes said. "All I can focus on is today and winning today and then moving on to the Seahawks this next week. He's got 15 more years. I'm only 30. I'm 31. He's played to 45. So, that's a long way away."
The milestone comes amid a dominant stretch for the Chiefs. Running back Kenneth Walker is on pace to challenge NFL rushing records, and the Kansas City offense has drawn praise around the league for its balance and efficiency. Mahomes threw for the game-winning score in the 22-6 victory over the Chargers, handing Los Angeles its sixth consecutive loss to open the season.
