The Green Bay Packers have added a veteran weapon at tight end. The club is signing free-agent TE Jonnu Smith to a one-year deal, per Adam Schefter, with Jordan Schultz first reporting the agreement.
Smith, one of the NFL's most respected veterans at the position, has amassed 345 career catches and 30 touchdowns. He is just a couple of years removed from a Pro Bowl season in Miami, when he posted 88 receptions for 884 yards and eight scores. Last year he played for Pittsburgh.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Packers are signing free-agent TE Jonnu Smith to a one-year deal, as @Schultz_Report also reported.
The move gives Green Bay another proven receiving option at tight end alongside Tucker Kraft, who is tracking toward full health for the regular-season opener after an offseason injury but might not be ready for the first week. Smith's arrival adds depth and experience to a position group the Packers have been working to strengthen.
