Evans, who signed with San Francisco this offseason after his lengthy Tampa Bay tenure, has also dealt with a quad issue and other bumps during camp, but the groin is the only currently flagged concern. Fowler notes the team considers it minor barring a setback. The 49ers open the season in Australia against the Rams on Sept. 13, and Evans is penciled in as a top target in the passing game.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan has not indicated Evans will be limited in the opener. Given the receiver's history of durability — he has missed only a handful of games across his career — San Francisco is treating the groin as a day-to-day matter rather than a Week 1 threat. The 49ers' receiver room has absorbed injuries elsewhere this summer, so keeping Evans on the field matters to an offense built around the pass.
