Josh Jacobs' court appearance moved up more than two months to Sept. 10

Josh Jacobs' initial court appearance on misdemeanor charges has been moved up more than two months, putting the Green Bay Packers running back in front of a judge on Sept. 10 at the Brown County courthouse.

Jacobs was originally scheduled to appear Nov. 17. The new hearing is set for 11 a.m., according to Wisconsin court records cited by Rob Demovsky, and stems from charges of misdemeanor battery and criminal destruction of property.

The accelerated date arrives with Jacobs on the NFL's Commissioner Exempt List. The league placed the running back on the list last weekend while it reviews the case, a step that keeps him away from the team but still paid while the matter is pending. His attorneys have stressed the designation is an administrative procedure, not a final determination.

Green Bay has already reshaped its backfield picture around Jacobs' uncertain status, acquiring running back Kaleb Johnson in a trade with the Steelers after the situation surfaced. Jacobs, who has been away from the club since the exempt-list placement, now has his next court date set for the week the regular season begins.

Exactly where the case goes from there — and whether the NFL completes its review in time for Jacobs to return — remains to be seen, but the Sept. 10 appearance gives the process a much sooner checkpoint than originally planned.
