The Cowboys created more than $19 million in salary-cap space by restructuring the contracts of defensive tackle Kenny Clark, cornerback DaRon Bland and tight end Jake Ferguson, per ESPN's Todd Archer. The deals were reworked to give Dallas flexibility as the 2026 season begins and to allow the club to carry over any unused space into 2027.
Clark had $8.8 million in base salary converted to a signing bonus, with an additional $1.5 million shifted to 2027. Bland's $12 million base and Ferguson's $7.25 million base were similarly converted to signing bonuses, adding roughly $2.15 million and $1.2 million, respectively, to the cap over the remainder of their deals. The moves do not change the players' weekly pay; they are purely an accounting adjustment.
These restructures follow a pattern the Cowboys have used repeatedly since March, when they already adjusted Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Tyler Smith, Terence Steele and Malik Hooker. The accumulated flexibility could prove valuable if the club wants to make a move around the trade deadline, as it did last year when it added Quinnen Williams.
