The NFL has withdrawn the $14,926 fine it hit 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk with, walking back the penalty after concluding his touchdown celebration simulated drinking from a juice box — not chugging a beer.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): The NFL has rescinded the $14,926 fine it imposed on 49ers FB Kyle "Juice" Juszczyk for what it thought was a distasteful celebration of chugging a beer. The league said it was withdrawing the fine "because his celebration was simulating drinking a juice box, not a beer."
The league had fined Juszczyk after his celebration drew scrutiny, initially treating it as a distasteful nod to drinking. But the league's reversal — first reported by Adam Schefter — rescinds the penalty entirely and clears the veteran fullback, closing out what briefly shaped up as an unusual off-field footnote to his season.
It's a minor administrative reversal, but it does carry a bit of juice of its own: the celebration was meant to evoke Kyle "Juice" Juszczyk's own nickname, a juice-box toast rather than anything inappropriate. The fine is gone, the fullback's account is cleared, and the 49ers roll on — with Juszczyk free to keep drinking from juice boxes on the way to the end zone without fear of another fine.
