Detroit made Tom Kennedy's promotion official Thursday, signing the veteran receiver from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The Lions had an open spot, so no corresponding move was needed.

Coach Dan Campbell said Wednesday that Kennedy would have a role in Sunday's opener against the Saints, and special teams coordinator Dave Fipp followed up Thursday by confirming Kennedy will handle punt and kickoff returns.
Kennedy has been with the Lions since 2019 and has moved between the practice squad and the active roster repeatedly in that time. He has 18 career catches for 231 yards across 30 games, with most of his path to the field running through the kicking game.
