The Detroit Lions are opening practice windows for two injured regulars: safetie Brian Branch (Achilles) and center Cade Mays (wrist), per Ari Meirov. Both will be designated to return from IR/PUP and begin practicing this week.
Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate): The #Lions will designate S Brian Branch (Achilles) and C Cade Mays (wrist) to return from IR/PUP,and both will begin practicing this week. Major reinforcements for a team that badly needs them.
Branch has been sidelined since suffering an Achilles injury and is a key piece of Detroit's secondary when healthy. Mays, likewise, gives the Lions' offensive line its starting center back as incumbent landing depth offices amid an uptick in injuries.
Returning both players to the practice field is a meaningful step for the position groups they anchor, and their projected returns come as Detroit looks to stabilize after a rash of injuries. Neither's exact game-day return has been announced, but entry into practice this week marks the start of the league's 21-day activation windows for each.
