The Chicago Bears are optimistic their leading rusher will be on the field for Sunday's game at Green Bay, with head coach Ben Johnson calling Kyle Monangai's thumb injury a day-to-day matter after the running back left the Jets win early.

Monangai had been carrying a heavy load before the injury, but the timing of his ailment is cushioned by how well the Bears' backfield has performed as a group. D'Andre Swift is Chicago's starter, and Monangai's production has made the pair one of the league's more dangerous one-two punches — Monangai leads the team in rushing while averaging 5.4 yards per carry.

A quick return would be meaningful for a Bears offense that relies on its ground game to set the tempo. Chicago heads to Lambeau Field on Sunday to face the Packers in a division matchup, and keeping both backs fresh and available looms as a key to how the team attacks Green Bay's front.
