The Jets will be shorthanded at a couple of key spots when they visit Detroit on Sunday. Head coach Aaron Glenn ruled out tight end Mason Taylor (thumb), safety Minkah Fitzpatrick (groin) and linebacker Kiko Mauigoa (quad) for the Week 3 matchup with the Lions.

Taylor is the Jets' No. 1 tight end, and the team has already been operating without starter-level depth at the position. He was limited after hurting his thumb, and while Glenn said earlier in the week the injury wasn't expected to keep him out long, the club ultimately decided not to push him into a road game against a Lions offense that has been among the league's most explosive. New York will lean on its reserve tight ends with Taylor sidelined.
Fitzpatrick's absence is the bigger-picture concern. The veteran free safety has been a steadying presence on the back end, and his groin issue has him ruled out for Sunday; Glenn made the designation official Friday. Mauigoa joins him on the shelf after dealing with a quad injury.
The news wasn't entirely negative for the Jets. Edge rusher Joseph Ossai practiced in full, a positive sign as he works back from a foot issue. On offense, receiver Adonai Mitchell caught a finger in a jersey during practice and was limited; Glenn would not commit to his availability for Sunday. The Jets, coming off a tough overtime loss to the Packers, head to Ford Field as a touchdown underdog.
