Jayden Daniels reportedly asks LSU to return his Heisman Trophy
The fight between Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels and LSU over the re-issuance of his No. 5 reportedly now includes a request that the school return his 2023 Heisman Trophy.
The dispute between Jayden Daniels and LSU over the re-issuance of his No. 5 has escalated. According to a report from Matt Moscana of LouisianaSports.net, the Commanders quarterback's representatives have asked the school to return its copy of the Heisman Trophy Daniels won in 2023.
Per the report, LSU does not intend to do so. The request follows earlier reports that Daniels' camp demanded the school stop using his name, image and likeness as part of the feud, which began over LSU's decision to give No. 5 to cornerback DJ Pickett.
Pro Football Talk notes the entire issue traces to conflicting promises made under former coach Brian Kelly: LSU reportedly promised Daniels his number would not be used again, then promised Pickett he would wear No. 5 if he committed. New coach Lane Kiffin honored the promise to Pickett and broke the one to Daniels.
If accurate, the trophy request shows how far the feud has gone — even as the Daniels camp has drawn public criticism for how it has handled the dispute.
