Harbaugh stopped short of naming every player who will make the team, but his comments leaned firmly toward keeping Beckham, who at 33 is attempting an NFL return after a long flirtation with the franchise that included a pair of spring workouts before he signed in April. The coach had said earlier in the week that Beckham turned in his "best week" of camp at the right moment, with a decision due over the weekend.
Beckham has not missed a practice all summer and has consistently shown the ability to create separation and get open — exactly what a Giants staff that watched him closely needed to see. Harbaugh made clear from the start that Beckham would have to earn his spot rather than be handed one on reputation.
"I feel like I gave everything I've had. Super grateful for the opportunity. At this point, it's in God's hands," Beckham said. "I know that I have a good feeling about myself. I feel like there is ball to be played, plays to be made. Right now, I'm just truly grateful for that opportunity and experience." The coming days will tell whether that gratitude turns into a spot on the Week 1 roster.
