The Eagles' depleted backfield took another hit during Sunday's Week 5 clash with the Jaguars in London. Running back Will Shipley, who entered the game as the team's No. 2 option, aggravated a foot injury and has been ruled out for the remainder of the contest.
Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): As if they needed more injuries: #Eagles RB Will Shipley (foot) is questionable to return against the #Jaguars.
Shipley was initially listed as questionable to return after being evaluated on the sideline, but the Eagles' medical staff ultimately ruled him out. The Eagles are now down to just D'Andre Pierce and Boston Steele at running back for the rest of the London game, per beat reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks.
The injury adds to a growing list of attrition for Philadelphia's offense. The Eagles entered Sunday without star running back Saquon Barkley (inactive), wide receiver DeVonta Smith, and wide receiver Hollywood Brown, and standout DE Jalyx Hunt was earlier taken to the locker room with a lower-leg injury. Rookie QB Cole Payton is active for the first time this season, but the run game will be asked to carry a heavier load with Shipley sidelined.
Jeff McLane (@Jeff_McLane): Couple #Eagles injury updates: Tyler Steen went indoors. RB Will Shipley (foot) is out.
Shipley, a second-year back out of Clemson, had been averaging 5.1 yards per carry and had scored two rushing touchdowns through the first four games as a key complementary piece in the Eagles' rotation. His status beyond Sunday will be worth monitoring when the team returns stateside.
