Von Miller agrees to terms with Cowboys on one-year deal

The eight-time Pro Bowl edge rusher is finalizing a return home, agreeing to a one-year, $5.5M deal with Dallas that can climb to $7.5M.

The Dallas Cowboys are finalizing a homecoming. Veteran edge rusher Von Miller has agreed to terms on a one-year deal worth $5.5 million, with a maximum value of $7.5 million, according to Ian Rapoport. The agreement moves the 37-year-old from the "expected" stage reported Sunday to officially done, giving Dallas the pass-rush help it spent more than a week hunting.

Miller, who grew up in the Dallas area and played his college ball at Texas A&M, returns to Texas for what would be his 15th NFL season. He is coming off a nine-sack campaign in Washington and remains the active leader in career sacks at 138.5.

The fit is logical for a Cowboys defense that prioritized getting after the quarterback this offseason. Miller joins a young, ascending group of rushers and brings a two-time Super Bowl champion's pedigree to a room that needed a proven finisher on obvious passing downs.

Jeremy Fowler added that, beyond Miller, Dallas has explored cornerback help in free agency, with former Eagles corner Adoree Jackson among the names to watch. Jackson has drawn interest from a few teams, so the Cowboys' roster tinkering may not be finished yet.

For now, the headline is Miller: a future Hall of Famer landing with his hometown team on a short, incentive-laden deal that carries little risk and a high ceiling.
