Valdes-Scantling joins his ninth NFL team, continuing one of the league's most well-traveled careers for a productive role player. His calling card has never changed: elite straight-line speed that stresses safeties and opens space underneath, even in seasons when his target totals stay modest.
The timing fits a Chargers roster managing receiver health. Los Angeles placed Keandre Lambert-Smith on injured reserve earlier in the evening, so adding a veteran with Valdes-Scantling's experience gives the club an insurance policy who already knows how to prepare without heavy practice reps. A practice-squad spot keeps him available for a quick elevation if the active roster needs another outside threat.
