The Tampa Bay Buccaneers reshuffled the back end of their roster with a two-for-two swap. The club waived running back Kadarius Calloway and safety Marcus Banks with injury designations, and signed running back Barika Kpeenu and safety Robert McDaniel, both of whom had worked out for the team on Sunday.
Greg Auman (@GregAuman): Bucs swap out two roster spots, with RB Kadarius Calloway and S Marcus Banks waived-injured and RB Barika Kpeenu and S Robert McDaniel signed. Both worked out for the team Sunday. Bucs have now added three safeties since the start of training camp.
Kpeenu will wear the same No. 49 Calloway wore, and McDaniel — cut by the Commanders last week — takes the No. 39 previously worn by Banks. The moves are depth trims driven by injury rather than performance, but they also signal where the staff sees redundancy.
The signing of McDaniel is notable for a secondary that has been thin. The Bucs have now added three safeties since the start of training camp, and head coach Todd Bowles openly acknowledged the depth behind Antoine Winfield Jr. and Tykee Smith is 'not great at this time.
