Browns sign pass rusher Sam Williams to active roster
Cleveland is adding a proven edge presence to its 53-man roster, signing former Cowboys pass rusher Sam Williams after he was released during cutdowns.
The Cleveland Browns are signing free-agent pass rusher Sam Williams to their active roster, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerESPN): The Browns plan to sign free agent pass rusher Sam Williams to the active roster, per sources.
It's a 53-man roster spot for Williams, who piled up 9.5 career sacks with the Dallas Cowboys before being released during final cutdowns. He carries $2 million in guarantees from his previous deal with Dallas, Fowler noted, so the Browns get an experienced edge rusher on the active roster rather than a practice-squad stash.
Williams gives Cleveland additional pass-rushing depth behind its established starters, a useful reinforcement as the team rounds out its defensive line entering the regular season.
