The Broncos will face Thursday night's matchup against visiting Seattle without their most important defender. Denver officially ruled out cornerback Pat Surtain II, who remains hampered by the ankle injury that has nagged him since late September.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter): Broncos officially ruled out CB Pat Surtain II for Thursday night's game vs. the Seahawks.
Seahawks top target Jaxon Smith-Njigba, meanwhile, carries no injury designation and is set to play in Denver.
Surtain avoided a long-term designation earlier this month when tests came back clean, but the ankle has kept him from practicing at full speed and now forces him to sit out what was shaping up as a marquee individual matchup against Seattle's emerging star receiver. Denver's secondary will also be without safety Talanoa Hufanga, who is expected to miss several weeks with his own ankle injury. The Broncos have had one of the league's stingiest pass defenses through five games, but losing their top two defensive backs in the same week — with Seattle's best healthy — tilts that matchup sharply on Thursday.
