The Denver Broncos let a 14-3 lead slip away Thursday night, then recovered in overtime to beat the Seattle Seahawks 17-14. Ja'Quan McMillian picked off Sam Darnold, and Wil Lutz finished it with a 53-yard field goal.
The finish followed a long stretch in which Denver seemed to have control without putting the game away. Seattle opened the scoring on Jason Myers' 55-yard field goal, but the Broncos answered with two sustained second-quarter touchdown drives. J.K. Dobbins ran in from four yards after a 16-play, 74-yard possession; RJ Harvey scored from the 1 after a nine-play, 79-yard march. Denver went to halftime ahead 14-3 and did not score again until overtime.
Seattle's offense finally broke through in the fourth. George Holani's 1-yard touchdown run capped an 11-play, 67-yard drive, and Darnold found Rashid Shaheed for the two-point conversion to make it 14-11 with 5:41 left. Myers then hit a 34-yarder with three seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. Myers had also missed a 47-yard attempt earlier in the second half.
The overtime possession turned on McMillian's interception, Darnold's second of the night. Lutz's kick delivered a win that moved Denver to 4-2 and dropped Seattle to 3-3. The Broncos' defense produced five sacks despite playing without Patrick Surtain II and Talanoa Hufanga, both ruled out with ankle injuries before the game.
Neither passing game found the end zone. Bo Nix completed 17 of 27 passes for 107 yards without a touchdown or interception; Darnold finished 27 of 51 for 278 yards, no touchdowns and two picks. Jaxon Smith-Njigba supplied Seattle's biggest receiving line with 12 catches for 134 yards, while Denver got its offensive touchdowns on the ground from Dobbins and Harvey. Jaylen Waddle left briefly for a shoulder evaluation but returned, as reported during the game.
The Broncos head into their next game with massive questions on offense, including where it is. For Seattle, the late rally was enough to erase the deficit, but the story of the season has been turnovers, especially from Sam Darnold.
