Twelve Bills sit out Monday's practice, including Shakir, Coleman and Ed Oliver
Buffalo opened its final preseason week with a long did-not-practice list headlined by Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Terrel Bernard and Ed Oliver, while rookie tackle Jude Bowry was in a walking boot.
The Buffalo Bills opened their final week of preseason work with a crowded trainer's room. Twelve players did not practice Monday, a list that touches all three phases of the roster and includes several expected Week 1 starters.
Joe Buscaglia (@JoeBuscaglia): Bills not practicing Monday: RB Ty Johnson WR Khalil Shakir WR Keon Coleman TE Shane Zylstra C Connor McGovern T Jude Bowry C Sedrick Van Pran-Granger DL Ed Oliver OLB Javon Solomon ILB Terrel Bernard S CJ Gardner-Johnson S Jalon Kilgore
The headline names are on offense: receivers Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman, running back Ty Johnson, tight end Shane Zylstra, centers Connor McGovern and Sedrick Van Pran-Granger, and rookie tackle Jude Bowry. On defense, defensive tackle Ed Oliver, edge rusher Javon Solomon, inside linebacker Terrel Bernard and safeties C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Jalon Kilgore were also out.
Two details stand out beyond the raw count. Bowry, an undrafted rookie tackle, was not only held out but spotted in a walking boot on his left leg — a rough development for a player trying to win a backup job before Sunday's cutdown. And Oliver, who has been dealing with an undisclosed issue in recent days, was at least present in Orchard Park even while sitting out, per Matt Parrino of WKBW.
Buffalo has not disclosed specifics for most of the group, which is normal for this stage of camp — teams aren't required to file injury reports until game week. With the preseason finale looming Saturday and rosters due to be cut to 53 by Sunday at 6 p.m. ET, the Bills will want their banged-up core back on the field quickly.
