Ja'Marr Chase won his appeal of the fines the NFL hit him with for his "people's elbow" celebration in the Bengals' game against the Texans, with both $14,926 penalties rescinded, per Ian Rapoport.
Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): #Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase won appeals of fines for his “people’s elbow” celebration, as two fines of $14,926 were rescinded from the #Texans game. From the appeals office letter, “On appeal, Mr. Chase … further contended that even if he committed the violation, his fine should be reduced because he received no warning that this was not allowed. “He added that this is a new celebration with his teammate and that it is not offensive. Mr. Chase finally stated that the NFL is assuming the worst of him and his teammate without discussing with the NFLPA.“
In the appeals office letter, Chase argued he received no warning that the celebration was not allowed, described it as a new celebration with his teammate that is not offensive, and said the NFL was "assuming the worst" of him and his teammate without discussing the matter with the NFLPA.
The ruling spares the Bengals' star wideout more than $29,800 in total fines and closes a disciplinary chapter from a game that had already produced headlines. Chase can now leave the celebration episode behind without a financial hit.
