The Bears' running back picture took another turn Thursday, with D'Andre Swift getting back on the field on a limited basis while Kyle Monangai remained on the sideline.

Thursday's report is the second consecutive day Monangai has been held out of practice as he manages thumb and toe injuries, while Swift's limited session marks his first work since being held out of Wednesday's practice with knee and hip issues. The Bears have been managing Monangai's workload carefully for days — Chicago said Wednesday that his thumb is not the concern so much as keeping the workload sensible — and the designation leaves his Sunday availability against the Packers at least in some question.

For Swift, the limited return is the more encouraging sign of the two, giving Chicago a chance to see its top back's legs before a Green Bay game that will test the ground game. The uncertainty here matters because both backs have carried the load at different points this season, and how the Bears split the work Sunday could hinge on how each responds to practice over the next two days.

Chicago will post another update Friday along with formal injury designations for Sunday's matchup at Lambeau Field.
