The 49ers are exploring options to replace Nick Bosa. After losing the star pass rusher to a calf injury this week, San Francisco worked out edge Matt Judon, linebacker Jamin Davis, defensive end Julian Okwara and defensive end Dawuane Smoot.
Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet): Following the injury to Nick Bosa this week, the #49ers worked out edge Matt Judon, LB Jamin Davis, DE Julian Okwara and DE Dawuane Smoot.
Bosa is expected to miss a few weeks, and the workouts signal the team is actively looking to add depth off the edge. The 49ers have now lost six defensive linemen over the past two weeks, leaving a once-dominant front severely thinned.
Judon is the biggest name of the group, a pass rusher with a track record of production who could step in immediately if signed. Davis and the two defensive ends round out a list of veterans who could provide experience and depth on a unit in transition.
With Bosa sidelined and the roster stretched thin, a signing could come quickly as the 49ers look to stabilize the defensive front ahead of a demanding stretch. The workouts show the urgency as the team navigates injuries at the worst possible time.
