Kyle Shanahan said Monday that the 49ers would have to manage Evans' hip this week, and Wednesday's absence is the first sign of that plan in action. Evans was joined on the sideline by defensive tackle James Thompson (ankle), wide receiver Demarcus Robinson (ankle) and defensive end Romello Height (hand), while several veterans took scheduled rest days. The 49ers are being careful with Evans, and his status for the week will be worth tracking as the club looks to keep its top receiver healthy.
