Jed York is back in the room. The 49ers' principal owner, whose suspension has ended, is attending this week's NFL meeting in Manhattan, his first return to league business since the discipline that followed his summer arrest in Ohio.

The runway to this point ran through a turbulent two months for San Francisco's ownership. York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, in late August and pleaded no contest days later to misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools, resolving the case with two concurrent days in the Columbiana County Jail with credit for time served, $1,150 in fines and a $5,000 bond. Commissioner Roger Goodell then confirmed the league was reviewing the plea under the personal conduct policy and said discipline would be announced when the review concluded.

While that process played out, York kept his distance from the team. He was in Australia for the 49ers' season opener but did not attend the game, and he also skipped the home opener against the Dolphins in September, staying away so as not to create a distraction while the investigation continued.

His return to a league meeting is a different kind of signal. Owners' gatherings are where committee work, rule proposals and league governance get done, and an owner's absence from them is felt beyond the standings — particularly for a club whose top executive had been sidelined from exactly that kind of room. For the 49ers, the practical effect is that their principal owner is once again present for the league-side business that runs alongside the season.

York has run the 49ers' front office since 2008 and became principal owner in 2024 after acquiring additional shares from his mother, co-chair Denise DeBartolo York.
